Curriculum

At Bethany School, we believe that curriculum is teacher-driven, in that teams of teachers work together to create powerful, creative, integrated lessons from a Christian world-view. The curriculum we use at Bethany School is a blend of both Christian and secular publishers. While Bible and Science courses are taught with Christian publishers, we believe that it is important in the core subjects of Language and Math to present the material from a standards-based perspective, which gives students a firm foundation as students prepare for the rigors of high school. Our teachers are intentional about integrating Biblical principles and a Christian world-view through each of the subject areas. In addition, students are empowered by learning time management and organizational skills that will carry them into their high school years and beyond.

Middle school "elective" classes include performing arts, fine arts, technical arts, and our new 8th Grade "L.I.F.E. & Arts" class, which will integrate all of the above as well as mini-units on life skills like career development, cooking, budgeting, and more.   Our performing arts class will introduce students to the art of drama and music, allowing them to communicate effectively on stage.  Students will take part in script writing, puppetry, music, choreography, and a final formal production.  All of our classes will focus on the 4 Cs of Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking.

Middle school students are now one-to-one with Google Chromebooks in each classroom.  Middle school students dress for Physical Education class four days a week. To cap of the week, all of our students in grades K-8 attend a weekly chapel, complete with a middle school worship team, offering, and a fun, inspirational message from God’s Word. In addition to classroom instruction, students are given real world opportunities to serve others through being classroom buddies, caring opportunities for local widows and orphans, and by serving at the local Rescue Mission in the spring.

The following are the publishers we use in our middle school classes:

Bible – Abeka

Language Arts – Harcourt

History – Bob Jones University Press

Science – Pearson

6th Grade Math – Houghton Mifflin

7th Grade Pre-Algebra – Houghton Mifflin
