“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Having been an administrator in both public and Christian schools, I often am asked the question, “Why Christian education?” My answer always starts with the realization that one can get a good education at a public school. Public schools have the resources and trained teachers to provide a quality education for the tens of thousands of students they serve. However, my answer always continues with another question, “Besides just a good education, what else do you desire for your child’s development?” Over the course of a week, your child will spend the majority of his/her waking hours at school, being influenced by that setting and the adults there. They can adequately learn to read and write and compute just about anywhere, but what else will they learn along the way? What else will they learn to imitate? What values will be passed on to them during those 6-7 hours a day?
By choosing Christian education, parents can be assured that their children will not only learn to read and write, but also learn to think with a Christian world view, filtering ideas using godly values based firmly in God’s Word. Students at a Christian school will be surrounded daily by adults who are followers of Jesus, who can speak truth and life and love into each situation and into each subject. Not only will students learn the Bible, but students will also learn math and science from a biblical perspective. Not only will students hear about godly values but students will learn to live them out as those same values become an integral part of the school-wide behavior plan. Students grow to learn to use God’s Word as a lens through which to see the world and as a guide for which to live out their faith and be lights in a dark world. So, if you are weighing the value of public vs. Christian education, understand that the impact can be an eternal one and the worth is immeasurable.
If you would like more information, I would be happy to share with you personally how a Christian education can help your child grow to BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, and SUCCEED.
